The Firm's "Teaching and Learning" Internship Program

Chwat & Company is one of the only lobbying and public affairs firms in Washington, DC to provide a year round teaching and learning internship program for undergraduate and graduate students in colleges and universities. Well over eight hundred students have graduated the Chwat and Company Internship Program, and many have careers in public affairs, lobbying and the law. Interns in the firm represent universities from all over the United States and Canada.

Chwat & Company sponsors an annual ‘Outstanding Political Science Graduating Senior Award’ at Long Island University, New York.

John Chwat was selected in 1995 by the Washington Center as their ‘Agency Supervisor of the Year.’ The Washington Center represents over three hundred colleges and universities and places interns in the nation’s capital.

What Interns say about their experience at Chwat & Company.

  • “I want to thank you for the opportunity to have interned at your Company. I can honestly tell you that I learned more this summer than I did in all my political science classes combined.”

  • “I am thankful that I had the opportunity to work on meaningful projects while at the same time I gained valuable knowledge about the lobbying and legislative process.”

  • “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to grow and learn, and for establishing the friendly working atmosphere where I could do the type of work I enjoy.”

  • “Since being home, I have come to realize just how important the internship experience was at Chwat & Company for my growth professionally.”

  • “The opportunities you have afforded me are remarkable. You have made my life richer by helping to guide me as I embark on the rest of my life.”

Chwat & Company requires all of their interns to receive college credit for participating in our internship program. If you are interested please, check with your college or university to see if they are affiliated with the Washington Center program for internships. Chwat & Company relies primarily on the Washington Center for their intern referrals. Students participating in this program should alert their supervisors about their interest in Chwat & Company.

If your school does not have a relationship with the Washington Center, exceptions can be made if you are able to work out a credit arrangement with your school’s faculty. Positions for non-Washington Center students are handled on a case-by-case basis and the interested student should email Chwat & Company directly.
